SALISBURY — A Salisbury man is charged with substituting price tags on items at Walmart, then returning the merchandise to get money back at the original price.

Nicholas Alexander Holdeen, 36, was charged Tuesday with two counts of felony larceny by merchant product code fraud and one count of felony obtaining property by false pretenses.

A Salisbury Police Department report said that on June 29, Holdeen went to the store and put a 97-cent sticker on a 12-pack of Red Bull energy drink. About nine minutes later, he returned to the store with a receipt from a Walmart in High Point to return the Red Bull. He was given $20 for the return, according to the report.

Holdeen later returned to the store, took two 500-watt halogen lightbulbs and changed the price tag to 97 cents.

Store employees became suspicious and contacted the loss prevention department.

Holdeen remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $1,500 secured bond.
