Area Sports Briefs: Rowan County wraps regular season on Sunday night

Rowan County’s American Legion baseball team (19-10, 4-5) finishes the regular season tonight with a home game against Stanly County at 7 p.m.
Some teams in Southern Division of Area III have several games left to play, but Rowan won’t be in action again until the Area III playoffs get started on July 5.

KANNAPOLIS — Mocksville pitcher Jalen Austin held Kannapolis to two hits for six innings on Saturday and got relief help from Jacob Campbell in a 5-4 victory.
Mocksville (9-16, 3-6) scored four runs in the third inning to erase an early Kannapolis lead.
Patrick Usher homered for Mocksville, while Troy Clary had two hits.
Chase Orrock had a two-run single in the first for Kannapolis (5-11, 1-6).
Kannapolis plays a doubleheader against Concord today. The first game is at Concord’s home field at Mount Pleasant at 2 p.m. Kannapolis is scheduled to host the nightcap at 8 p.m.
Kannapolis will play at Mocksville on Tuesday to finish the regular season for both teams.

MOUNT PLEASANT — Joe Muhonen survived a four-run second inning by Mooresville and pitched a complete game to lead Concord to a 7-4 win against the Moors (8-13, 6-4) on Saturday.
Jake Rowden hit a three-run homer for Concord in the first inning.
Concord (10-9, 5-1) still has four division games left to play. Concord plays a doubleheader against Kannapolis today and will finish the regular season with games on Monday and Tuesday against Stanly County.

THOMASVILLE — Avery Adams homered to help High Point hold off Kernersville 6-5 on Saturday.

LEXINGTON — Andruw Cook pitched six strong innings to lead Davidson County to a 2-1 win against Greensboro on Saturday.

KANNAPOLIS — Trent Wilson’s sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth lifted Stanly County a 7-6 win over Kannapolis in Friday’s division game.
Stanly led 6-1 going to the bottom of the sixth, but Kannapolis got two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to force extra innings.
Jack Foley homered for Stanly. Foley, Carson Lowder and Will Dagenhart had two hits each.
Orrock homered for Kannapolis. Orrock had two hits and two RBIs. Sam Walker had two RBIs.

KING — Stokes County edged Davidson County 6-5 in Friday’s Northern Division of Area III contest.
Cam Whitaker homered for Stokes, while Zack Cates homered for Davidson County.

RAMSEUR — Kernersville scored four runs in the first inning and pounded Eastern Randolph 12-1 for a road win in the Northern Division on Friday.
Cam Watts homered, tripled and drove in three runs for Post 36.

GIBSONVILLE — In the Northern Division, Randolph County cruised to an 8-1 win at Greensboro behind a complete game tossed by Braxton Davis.
Trevor Marsh homered to lead Randolph’s offense.
Junior Legion
CHINA GROVE — Aaron Misenheimer survived a three-run first inning by Concord and pitched a complete game in Carson’s 6-5 win on Saturday.
Caden Hudson had two hits for Carson.
CJ Koefler had three hits for Concord.
Carson plays at Concord on Monday.

West Rowan won two games against the Davidson Hawgs on Saturday.
Hunter Watts had three hits in a 9-8 win. Andrew Kennerly had a double and a triple and Noah Loeblein had two hits.
Lane Adkins pitched five innings.
In an 11-0 win, Lucas Graham pitched a shutout for West, and Jake Poris had a bases-clearing triple.
West is 6-2 in conference play. West hosts Statesville Sunday and plays at Mocksville on Monday.

CHINA GROVE — Mason Duren pitched a shutout to lead Carson to a 2-0 win on Friday against East Rowan.
Duren allowed five hits and struck out two.
Caden Hudson and Emory Taylor had RBIs for Carson.
Griffin Warden had two hits for East.

South Rowan, the leader in the Southern Division’s Southwest Conference, won against West Rowan 8-4 on Friday.
Haiden Leffew had three hits for South.

NORWOOD — Kannapolis Post 115 shut out Stanly County 4-0 on Friday.
Michael Specht pitched six shutout innings with nine strikeouts.
Chase Ervin had two hits and two RBIs.
Legion softball
Rowan County split with Iredell County on Thursday.
Whitley Arnott pitched Iredell’s 3-1 win in the first game.
Andrea Furr pitched for Rowan. Brooke Lowery had Rowan’s only hit.
• In the second game, Rowan won 11-3.
Ali Glover pitched for Rowan.
Mac Misenheimer went 3-for-3. A’Yonna Waddell and Maddie Trexler had two hits each.
Summer baseball
Morehead City’s Hunter Shepherd (Catawba) was chosen to play in the Coastal Plain League All-Star Showdown on July 7 in Savannah, Ga.

Bryan Ketchie (West Rowan, Catawba) had a great start for the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks on Friday in the New England Collegiate League.
Ketchie allowed five hits and one run and struck out four in seven innings. He got his first win of the summer.
Jackson Raper (Catawba) hit his first homer for the Sharks on Wednesday.
Minor leagues
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Bryce Bush hit a run-scoring triple in the seventh inning, leading the Kannapolis Intimidators to a 6-4 win over the West Virginia Power on Saturday.
The triple by Bush, part of a two-run inning, gave the Intimidators a 5-4 lead before Johan Cruz hit an RBI single later in the inning.
The Intimidators tied the game 4-4 when Romy Gonzalez hit an RBI double, driving in Cruz in the sixth.
Alex Destino homered twice and singled, scoring three runs while driving in two for Kannapolis.
Wyatt Burns (2-0) got the win with three innings of scoreless, one-hit relief while David Ellingson (3-3) took the loss in the South Atlantic League game.
Onil Pena doubled twice, scoring a run and also driving one home for the Power.
Kannapolis improved to 5-1 against West Virginia this season.
