KANNAPOLIS — The Kannapolis Public Works Department says it’s streamlining and improving the collection of waste to help residents dispose of items properly.

A news release said garbage, recycling and yard waste collection as well as collection schedules will remain the same. Garbage and yard waste collection is weekly. Recycling is biweekly.

The city will now provide curbside collection of e-waste (television sets, computers, etc.) for residents. A new service, e-waste will be collected biweekly on the same day as recycling. Residents will no longer take e-waste to the Public Works facility.

Businesses should continue to dispose of e-waste privately.

The city also will collect white goods (appliances) curbside on a biweekly basis instead of weekly. This will be the same day as recycling collection.

Residential curbside collection of bulky waste is also changing from weekly to biweekly. The collection will be on recycling day. Only 5 yards (the equivalent of five washing-machine loads) of bulky waste is allowed per biweekly pickup.

Businesses should continue to take bulky waste to the Charlotte Motor Speedway Landfill, 505 Morehead Road, Concord.

“We hope that residents will find the new e-waste curbside collection beneficial,” said Public Works Director Wilmer Melton. “By going to a biweekly schedule for white goods, bulky waste, recycling and e-waste, we think this will help people plan ahead and remember when to put items at the curb. This should also help us improve how our city looks as well as aid us in adequately scheduling manpower to handle the routes throughout the city.”

Residents can find the collection schedule, schedule reminders and alerts about collection delays and search for what is recyclable, bulky waste or e-waste by using the free CARTology app. Find it in the Apple and Google Play stores or on the city’s website, kannapolisnc.gov/garbage.

These new services will go into effect next week.
