A Granite Quarry woman faces a felony drug charge after she overdosed at a local restaurant and admitted taking heroin, according to a Salisbury Police Department report.

Police charged Jessie Lee Hastings, 30, of the 1000 block of South Main Street, with felony possession of a controlled substance Schedule I and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Just before 8 p.m. Thursday, police were called to Wink’s Barbecue, 509 Faith Road, where a woman had overdosed. When officers arrived, Hastings was conscious and alert.

She told the officer she had taken heroin. Police found a plastic bag containing 26 unused hypodermic needles, two used needles, a digital scale, a mirror and two spoons with heroin residue on them.

Police said the drugs tested positive for heroin.

In July 2016, Hastings and her husband, David Wayne Hastings, were found passed out in the parking lot of Sheetz, police said. The couple’s toddler was sitting in the back seat, crying and sweating profusely, an officer said in a police report.

Hastings was convicted on charges of felony drug possession, child abuse and misdemeanor larceny. Hastings is also on probation for a May 9 conviction for misdemeanor larceny.

Hastings was released from the Rowan County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond.
