Fencing school June 4 at Piedmont Research Station

There will be Fencing School on Tuesday, June 4, at the Piedmont Research Station, 8530 Sherrills Ford Road.

The fencing school is designed for anyone raising any species of livestock, including equine, sheep and goats. The school will help you understand the different types of fencing, budgets and how to construct fences that will last.

The program will begin at 9:30 a.m. with doors opening at 9 a.m.  There will be a classroom session in the morning, followed by hands-on fence building in the afternoon. The day will end by 4 p.m. Topics that will be covered include a discussion regarding temporary versus permanent fencing, budget considerations, types of materials (post and wire), electric fencing and safety.

In the hands-on sessions, participants will have the opportunity to help set up electric fencing, learn about electric fence troubleshooting, and help construct a high tensile fence including building an H-brace.
