A Memorial Day program will be held to honor veterans in the committal shelter of the Salisbury National Cemetery Annex on May 27 at 10 a.m.
Al Heggins, mayor of Salisbury, and Steven Fezler, Salisbury National Cemetery director, will attend. Joseph Vaughn, W.G. “Bill” Hefner VA Medical Center director, will be among the participants.
The cemetery is one of 136 national cemeteries and 33 soldiers lots and monument sites operated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Burial in national VA cemeteries is open to members of the armed forces and veterans who met minimum active duty requirements and were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable.
In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in Building 6.
