Blake found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in 2016 stabbing of barber

SALISBURY — Jermail Blake has been found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the murder of local barber Altereck Shields.

The verdict came Thursday after four hours of deliberation by a jury in Rowan County Superior Court. Judge Anna Mills Wagoner said Blake would be sentenced on Friday.

Blake had been charged with second-degree murder.

Shields was reportedly stabbed to death in 2016 by a man he got into a fistfight with, and a medical examiner testified Wednesday that Shields was stabbed three times on New Year’s Eve. Shields, Blake and other men were at the house of Anthony Angle Sr., who a friend of Shields and a cousin of Blake.

The trial began Tuesday.
