A Rural Hall man was injured Monday in a mountain bike accident, according to Locke Fire Chief Rusty Alexander.

The 63-year-old man and his wife, who said she was walking while her husband was biking, were at Salisbury Community Park.

Rescue personnel were not able to reach the man through the park, located at 935 Hurley School Road, but had to relocate to the 400 block of Majolica Road, across from Old Carolina Brick Co. and nearby railroad tracks.

Crews had to hike 1.5 miles into the woods.

The biker fractured his lower leg, Alexander said. He had to be carried out of the woods on a stretcher and a utility vehicle.

Locke Fire Department, Woodleaf Fire Department, Rowan Rescue Squad and Rowan EMS responded.
