Bob Jones University

GREENVILLE, S.C. — The following students are among more than 800 Bob Jones University students named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester.

• Kevin Cook of Rockwell, a junior criminal justice major.

• Nehemiah Worley of Salisbury, a sophomore physics major.

The Dean’s List recognizes students who earn a 3.0 to 3.74 grade point average during the semester.

Gardner-Webb University

BOILING SPRINGS — Gardner-Webb University recently honored undergraduate students for academic excellence and outstanding service and leadership. The winners of these awards exemplify the university’s core values of faith, service and leadership in their classrooms and communities.

In recognition of the award presentation, each student may choose one book for purchase by Gardner-Webb’s Dover Memorial Library. The book will be inscribed with the student’s name and the date of the award presentation.

The following students from Rowan County were recognized:

 • Leah Grace Jancic of Cleveland, a senior art major, received the James Rash Award, which is presented to a student who exhibits outstanding creativity, productivity, craftsmanship and presentation in the areas of ceramics or sculpture. The award is given in honor of Rash, who taught ceramics, art appreciation, drawing and painting for at Gardner-Webb from 1965 to 1980.

• Celsea Reeder of Salisbury, a senior biology major, received the Chemistry Service Award for her diligence and excellent work as a laboratory assistant for the chemistry program. Reeder also presented a collaborative research project with three other students at the Gardner-Webb Life of the Scholar Multidisciplinary Conference and at the Alpha Chi Honor Society National Convention in Cleveland. The topic was “Gender Identity As a Polarizing Issue in the Workplace.”

Carson High School

The North Carolina Bassmaster High School and Junior State Tournament was held last May 4-5 at Jordan Lake. Daniel Pell and Nick Klein, representing Carson High School, placed second with a two-day total weight of 26 pounds.

By finishing in one of the top two spots, the pair qualified to represent North Carolina in the National Bassmaster High School Tournament on Kentucky Lake on Aug. 5-11.

Sherman College

SPARTANBURG, S.C. — Joe Donofrio, vice president for academic affairs, announced that two local students were included on the Sherman College Dean’s List for the winter academic quarter. Dean’s List students have achieved a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the quarter.

• Kathryn Heidt of Rockwell.
