Christian music for a good cause is the feature at Destiny City Church on Saturday.

The church, at 2324 S. Main St., will sponsor Rock ‘n’ Sock to raise money for Life Village.

It is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m.

Admission is $5 or a new baby item. VIP tickets are $20 and include a 5 p.m. early entry and a meet-and-greet with musicians.

Life Village is the brainchild of Eddie and Crystal DeHart of Woodleaf, who hope to open the home for first-time homeless mothers on June 1.

“We’ve been doing pro-life ministry for years,” says Eddie.

They DeHarts purchased two adjacent farmhouses. One will house three women and a house mother, the other administrative offices.

Life Village is a ministry of 911 Babies, a nonprofit organization the DeHarts founded after Sept. 11, 2001. The couple adopted their daughter, Bella, from a young mom who could not keep her.

Featured musicians are donating their time. They are Adelaide from Mississippi and Tony Jones, a Christian hip-hop artist based in St. Louis. Selfless Sunday of North Wilkesboro will open for Adelaide.

Money raised will go toward Life Village’s Vision Fund to provide for future infrastructure.

Crystal DeHart, who loves HGTV, has had fun repurposing used furniture for the moms’ house. The couple could still use a full or queen bedroom suite, crib and glider, she said.

“A lot of stuff has come from the Habitat for Humanity ReStore,” Crystal said. “They know me well there.”

The exterior is gray with a hot pink front door, the colors favored by pro-life supporters.

The DeHarts will focus on housing new moms ages 16 to 25 for as long as 15 months, providing discipling and parenting classes. A cadre of 60 volunteers have helped get the house ready.

Otherwise, Crystal says, “We are strictly depending on God.”
