A contractor will remove the Old Beatty Ford Road bridge over Interstate 85 starting Monday night, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.

The bridge was closed to traffic on April 26.

Starting at 9 p.m. Monday, the contractor will install a left lane closure on northbound I-85 just north of Exit 63 (Lane Street). A full northbound I-85 closure will start at midnight Tuesday and last until 6 a.m. Tuesday between Mile Markers 63 and 68. This same closure and detour will be repeated Tuesday and Wednesday night.

The detour route will be Exit 63, the Lane Street exit. Turn left at the top of the off ramp and continue west for about 2 miles. Turn right onto U.S. 29 north and continue 5 miles to re-access I-85 North from N.C. 152.

Once work is completed on northbound I-85, the contractor will use a Southbound I-85 detour

Starting at 9 p.m. May 9, the contractor will install a left lane closure on southbound I-85 just north of Mile Marker 66. A full southbound I-85 closure will start at midnight Friday and last until 9 a.m. Saturday.

This same closure and detour will be repeated at night on May 10 and 11. On May 12-13, the contractor will use the same detour and will be finished by 6 a.m.

The next week, the contractor will use this detour again on May 20-22. While the southbound detour is in effect, the on-ramp to I-85 south from N.C .152 will be closed.

The detour route will be Exit 68, the N.C. 152 exit. Turn right at the top of the ramp and continue for a quarter mile. Take the exit to U.S. 29  South and continue south for about 5 miles. Turn left onto Lane Street and continue 2 miles to re-access I-85 South.

During the work period, the contractor may also use slow rolls through the work zone and lane closures in the opposite direction.
