The South Salisbury Fire Department recognized firefighters at its annual membership banquet.

During the ceremony, held April 13, Deputy Fire Chief Jason Burnett recognized the following members with service pin awards: firefighter Terry Hiatt, five years; Assistant Fire Chief Robert Hill, five years; firefighter Jonathan McCaskill, 10 years; firefighter Rocky Fields, 15 years; Fire Chief Cory Orbison, 30 years; medical responder Myra Eller, 40 years; medical responder Vickie Grubb, 45 years; and medical responder Franda Raymer, 45 years.

The South Salisbury Fire Department also recognizes members who go above and beyond to provide services for the public. These awards are voted on by the department membership.

Firefighter Kenny Kirkman was presented the G. Alexander “Pud” Lyerly Jr. Rookie of the Year Award. Kirkman began a volunteer firefighter in 2016.

Lt. Justin Belk was presented the Harold V. Glover Firefighter of the Year Award and the Kevin D. Williams Service Above Self Award. Belk began his service as a volunteer firefighter in 2005. He was promoted to his current rank in January.

Assistant Fire Chief Robert Hill was presented the Daniel W. Peters Officer of the Year Award and the Walter K. Shoaf Medical Responder of the Year Award. Hill began as a volunteer firefighter in 2013.
