SALISBURY — A Salisbury man faces felony charges after he stole a wallet and used a credit card at various businesses, according to police.

A woman accidentally left the wallet inside a convenience store restroom, police said.

The Salisbury Police Department on Sunday charged Keith Ronell Tillman, Jr., 21, of the 200 block of Myron Place, with one count of felony larceny, four counts of felony obtaining property by false pretenses and one count of felony credit card fraud.

Police said the theft occurred Oct. 30 after a woman stopped for gasoline at Murphy’s Express on Freeland Drive. She took her Louis Vuitton wallet into the restroom and left it inside. When she remembered it and returned to the store, the wallet was gone.

Police looked at store surveillance video and saw a man go into the restroom after the woman, but it was unclear if he had the wallet when he left. Police later determined that someone used or tried to use the credit card within 30 minutes at Chick-fil-a, Walmart, Bojangles’, FT Tobacco and SV Discount store.

Police issued warrants for Tillman on Jan. 2 through the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office. Tillman was arrested Sunday in the 500 block of West Monroe and South Caldwell streets.

Reports show a purchase was made at Chick-fil-a for $15.58 and Walmart for $697.64. Police said an attempt to use the card was made a few minutes later at Walmart for $532.86 and four minutes later at Walmart for $287.83, but both times the card was declined.

A purchase was made at Bojangles’ for $6.39. A short time later, purchases at FT Tobacco for $187.78, $110.04, $55.02 and $15 were declined.

Police said a $6.38 purchase at SV Discount store was approved.

Tillman has been released from the Rowan County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.
