Rockwell man charged with stabbing son after fight over cigarettes

ROCKWELL — A Rockwell man was behind bars Wednesday after he stabbed his son after a fight over cigarettes, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies went to 525 Troutman Road at 5:30 a.m. Monday after a report of a stabbing there.

Authorities said Calvin Ray Linker, 66, of 515 Moore-Ray Lane, Stanley, had stabbed his son, Jesse Linker, 37.

Calvin Linker was intoxicated, and he said his son would not give him a cigarette, authorities said. Jesse Linker was stabbed in the arm and was taken by ambulance to Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast in Concord for treatment.

Calvin Linker was charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury. He also was served with an outstanding order for arrest for failure to appear in court in Gaston County.

He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $3,500 bond.
