Man assaults ex-girlfriend’s new beau

SALISBURY — A local man had to have surgery to repair his jaw after his girlfriend’s former boyfriend assaulted him, breaking his jaw, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

Bruce Wayne Arquette, 37, of 1075 Burkesway Drive, was charged with felony assault inflicting serious bodily injury.

Randy Long Jr. told authorities he arrived home about 7:30 p.m. Thursday and began talking to his girlfriend when he was struck by an unknown object. He said he was blindsided, but when he caught his bearings he saw Arquette rushing toward him.

According to Long, Arquette punched him. Long fell to the ground ,and Arquette stopped punching him.

Long went to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center for treatment.

Hospital staff said Long’s jaw was broken in two places and he had several loose teeth. He was later transferred to a Charlotte hospital.

Arquette remains in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $35,000 secured bond.
