Letter: Band students set example of cooperation

The collaborative nature of students in Rowan-Salisbury high schools was on full display last weekend. Sixteen band students from different schools came together to create the All-County Jazz Ensemble.

Thanks to funding provided by a Grassroots Arts Grant made possible by the Rowan Arts Council and the N.C. Arts Council, the students performed an outstanding musical performance at Salisbury High School.

Wally West, a noted jazz saxophonist and educator, rehearsed the ensemble for two days, teaching a program of varying styles of jazz music. Students rose to the challenge and played as if they’d been together all year, rather than only hours.

The students set the example of cooperation, collaboration and hard work. My appreciation goes to their parents, band directors and to Salisbury High School for hosting the event.
