SALISBURY — A Salisbury woman accused of leaving her 3-year-old daughter at home alone has been arrested.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office served an arrest warrant for Chloe Danielle Shuping, 28, on Wednesday in the 2400 block of Statesville Boulevard. She is charged with misdemeanor child abuse.

The Salisbury Police Department was alerted Monday by the girl’s father, who said his ex-wife had called him asking for a ride. The father asked where their daughter was, and Shuping said the child was at home asleep.

The father told Shuping he would not pick her up, but when she asked a second time, he again asked where the toddler was. According to the father, Shuping told him the child was home by herself at the West Side Manor apartment complex.

Police and the father were able to coax the child to the door of the apartment. The child was not injured.

Police said the toddler’s grandmother dropped her off at home about 7 p.m. last Sunday. The father Face-Timed Shuping about 2 a.m. Monday, and she called him to pick her up about 7:30 a.m.

Shuping is expected in court April 17.
