Letter: Fundraiser to help new cancer center

Published 12:00 am Thursday, March 28, 2019

The Sweet Potato Queens have been raising money to fight cancer since we organized in 2001. We have raised well over $250,000 to help find the cure.

Now the Queens are preparing for our annual chicken noodle dinner to support the Novant Health Wallace Cancer Center Foundation. All proceeds will go to the foundation, which is in the process of raising money for an all-inclusive, state-of-the-art cancer hospital right here in our hometown. No longer will cancer patients have to go from place to place for surgery, chemo and radiation. It will all be under one roof.

The Sweet Potato Queens, recognized by our red wigs and tiaras, made all the noodles by hand, the old-fashioned way. The dinner will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Organ Lutheran Church, 1515 Organ Church Road. You can buy tickets at the door or from a queen for $7 per adult and $4 for children.Hot dogs will be available in addition to noodles.

Please come out and support the Sweet Potato Queens. We believe that every dollar we raise gets us closer to finding the cure for cancer.
