Letter: Landis residents may only have themselves to blame

The information presented in the paper about the real incomes of two individuals previously employed by Landis raises several questions about the way that town is run and how much of an effort those involved performed in the exercise of “their duties.”

It seems clear that there was little oversight, slackness, incompetence and indifference to have allowed something like that to go on for 10 years, according to the article. The current mayor, who used the term “ludicrous” to describe questions from some of those present at a town meeting, deserves the application of this adjective to his pathetic statements about these latest revelations.

Worst of all, if there is a finding of embezzlement, it’s a reflection on the generalized corruption of American life and culture in which money is the most important thing, and the people of Landis, in addition to picking up the pieces from this occurrence, will have only themselves to blame, as do other Americans for allowing people into office who never had any business being there.
