Salisbury Rowan Church Women United hold annual meeting

Salisbury Rowan Church Women United Annual Meeting was held at Southern City Tabernacle African American Episcopal Zion Church on January 13. The theme for 2019 is “The Time Is Now! Agree to Differ. Resolve to Love. Unite to Serve.” Dottie Clement, First Presbyterian, provided the musical prelude. Annie Bates, Trinity Presbyterian, gave the opening prayer. Marva McCain, host president welcomed everyone to Southern City. Anita Hovis, Moore’s Chapel A.M.E.Zion, gave the guiding scriptures: Micah 6:8; Isaiah 56:12; Psalm 82:3-4.

Outgoing President Dorothy Gill Smith, Moore’s Chapel A.M.E.Zion, presided and gave the annual report of the 2018 activities and outreach. Penny Knox, Soldiers Memorial A.M.E. Zion, introduced her Associate Pastor, Rev. Margaret Anderson, who gave the key note address. Rebecca Stinson graced the gathering with her rendition of “Great is Thy Faithfulness.” Doris Boyd Brown, Jerusalem Missionary Baptist, presented the 2019 officers. Flow Peck, First United Church of Christ, installed the following: President, Vickie Kotlarz, Sacred Heart Catholic; Vice-President, Joanne Diggs, Faith Temple Triumphant Ministries; Recording Secretary, Mary Marlin, Ardis Chapel A.M.E. Zion; Financial Secretary, Brenda Venning, St Luke Baptist; Treasurer, Tonya Cornelius, Sills Creek A.M.E.Zion; Celebrations Chair, Doris Brown; Prayer Breakfast, Manie Richardson, Milford Hills UMC; May Friendship, Catherine Rivens, Sandy Ridge Sandy Ridge A.M.E.Zion; Human Rights, Anita Hovis; World Community, Gloria Bradshaw, First Calvary Missionary Baptist; Ecumenical Action, Dora Correll, Ardis Chapel A.M.E.Zion; Ecumenical Development, Sarah Byerly, Christ UMC; Finance Chair/ Historian, Montrella Davis, Sacred Heart Catholic; Nominations, Dorothy Gill Smith; Wellsprings Bible Study, Ginny Reed, Trinity Wesleyan; Young Church United subgroup, Tonya Cornelius; Communications/Valiant Woman Award, Betty Jo Hardy, Milford Hills UMC;

Key Woman Award, Jean Kennedy, Southern City A.M.E.Zion; Telephone Committee, Jean Lowery, Gethsemane Missionary Baptist; Chaplain, Alease Taylor; Ministerial Representative, Rev. Barbara Hart. The Valiant Woman Award was presented to the Twanda Mitchell, White Rock A.M.E.Zion and Dorothy Gill Smith. In coming President Vickie Kotlarz conducted the business session. Tonya Cornelius presented the 2019 budget which was adopted.
