ESU to host expert in the field of cyberspace

Dan Swartwood, an expert in the field of cyberspace, will be the featured speaker at the next meeting of The English-Speaking Union on March 21.

Subjects he plans to talk about: What is Cyberspace? Should we care about Cyperspace? How did it become an issue? How can we safeguard ourselves?

Swartwood had a career as a US Army counterintelligence officer. After his retirement from the Army he successfully managed global data protection programs in four Fortune 100 companies and the third largest private company in America.

He has created, implemented and managed global privacy, IP protection, security investigations and data protection programs for more than two decades.

He became the president of the Society for the Policing of Cyperspace in 2014, and in 2011 became a distinguished fellow with the Ponemon Institute, a leading data protection research group.

Among the highlights of Swartwood’s career were a definitive operations review of the ATF operation at Waco, Texas; an independent security review of the White House for th Inspector General of the US Secret Service; and an independent review of the US Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon.

He is currently in discussions with Billy Bob Thornton on a television show about his career.
