March Power in Partnership to highlight agribusiness

Linda Andrews of the North Carolina Farm Bureau Federation will be the keynote speaker at “Salute to Agribusiness,” this month’s Rowan County Chamber of Commerce Power in Partnership breakfast. 

The breakfast will be at West End Plaza at 7:15 a.m. March 21.

Andrews is the national legislative director for the Farm Bureau. In this role, she is an advocate for North Carolina agriculture and rural communities both locally and nationally. Before joining the Farm Bureau staff, she was a volunteer leader in several organizations. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Andrews and her family live on their century-old family farm in Harnett County.

Salute to Agribusiness is in coordination with the chamber’s agribusiness committee and the Rowan County Extension Office. The breakfast will feature Rowan County-grown products including farm-fresh eggs, Patterson Farm jams and jellies and livermush.

Anyone who is not a Power Card holder should make reservations by 5 p.m. March 18.

Mean Mug to open downtown on Friday

Mean Mug coffee shop will host a grand opening at its new location on Friday.

After being in the Fulton Heights neighborhood, Mean Mug is relocating to 110 N. Main St.

Owned by Evelyn Medina, Mean Mug will provide job opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities through the S.O.A.R. program.

The shop will also offer a pay-it-forward system in which customers can buy coffee for someone in need.

Mean Mug will expand its breakfast menu and continue to offer an organic, free-trade coffee menu.

Mean Mug will be the second downtown coffee shop, joining Koco Java on East Kerr Street.

Senior Solutions Group to help elderly with insurance plans

Angie and Alan Misenheimer opened Senior Solutions Group to help clients find a Medicare plan that’s right for them. On Feb. 22, the Misenheimer family opened an office at 1620 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Suite 103.

The Misenheimers are joined by their children, Laura and Rusty.

After 20 years of experience, Angie and Alan Misenheimer wanted to help seniors navigate Medicare issues after they had difficulties understanding the federal program.

Senior Solutions Group will have a grand opening benefit on March 23 to support Rowan Helping Ministries with a food drive.

EDC launches Rowan Manufacturers Directory

The Rowan Economic Development Commission has launched a web-based directory of Rowan County manufacturers.

The new directory connects manufacturers with each other and will benefit them through improved access to sales opportunities, a platform to market products and opportunities to collaborate.

“With this new platform, we’re enabling suppliers to connect with each other, create new sales opportunities and ultimately, grow our manufacturing base,” said EDC President Rod Crider.

The manufacturers directory allows visitors to search for manufacturing companies by name, number of employees, location and NAICS code. Search results may be downloaded for reference in a PDF. The online directory replaces a printed version that EDC had published in the past.
