Three Rivers Land Trust gets $20,000 grant to buy land

Three Rivers Land Trust recently received a $20,000 donation from Cube Hydro Carolinas for the “Save the Yadkin” campaign.
The campaign is an effort led by Three Rivers to conserve more than 4,700 acres and 76 miles of shoreline on the Yadkin River. The money will be used to purchase Phase I, which includes more than 2,300 acres along the Yadkin and South Yadkin rivers upstream from High Rock Lake.
More than $5.7 million has been raised, leaving another $2 million needed.
Three Rivers and its partner, the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, are continuing to raise money for the permanent conservation of the land. The public has had access to the property for more than 30 years for hiking, hunting, fishing and paddling. Once conserved, the wildlife commission will own the land and the public will have access in perpetuity.
Three Rivers and the wildlife commission hope to buy the land by September. If successful in conserving the riverfront property, they will have two more years to buy Phase II of the Alcoa lands, 2,400 acres on Tuckertown Reservoir.

The acquisition will connect conserved areas and wild places, provide access for the public, protect habitat, and help sustain outdoor recreation, tourism and forestry.
