Letter: Laws must be obeyed for peace

Mayor Al Heggins and Anthony Smith should have reviewed the laws concerning illegal immigrants before making any public comments.

I personally welcome every person who has proceeded through the proper channels to achieve citizenship in this country and applaud their contributions to our community.

I believe we can all live in peace and harmony, but we must observe all the state and federal laws with no exception.

Heggins and Smith, through their comments, have created a precarious situation for ICE and the Salisbury Police Department.

Their response to crime will now be met with great resistance from the illegal immigrant community. I applaud ICE in removing criminals from our streets and community.

I stand behind local law enforcement when they aid and assist ICE in this removal.

Finally, there appears to be a lack of cohesion and communication with the mayors’ office and City Council that needs to be addressed. That starts with the mayor’s office.
