Livingstone College President Jimmy R. Jenkins is inviting the public to help the college celebrate 140 years of excellence in higher education and 400 years of black excellence in the United States of America.

“As we reflect upon the survival of people of African descent in the USA, we acknowledge the strength and contributions we have made to the global society, whereas one of our greatest contributions have been in the culinary and hospitality industry.”

Livingstone College is hosting its first Soul Food Sunday Celebration, Top Chef Competition.  The event will be Sunday, Feb. 24, from 1:40 to 4 p.m. at Livingstone College’s School of Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management, 530 Jake Alexander Blvd. South, Salisbury.

Jenkins says “This event aims to galvanize this region’s top chefs with the overall goal to provide four scholarships for any student to earn and complete credentials in one of the college’s culinary programs.”

There are four categories of competition. The winner of each category will win a scholarship for themselves or a designee that must be redeemed by the fall 2020 academic term. There is no entry fee for the competition and this event is open to the public for sampling. All dishes within the four categories outlined in the judging sheet are welcomed.
