Catawba College Choral Concert ‘How Can I Keep From Singing?’
4 p.m. Feb. 24
Catawba College Choirs under the direction of Dr. Phillip E. Burgess will present their first spring concert on Sunday at 4 p.m. in Catawba’s Omwake-Dearborn Chapel. The hour long program, “How Can I Keep From Singing?” will feature the Catawba Singers, Chamber Choir and PopAC in selections that speak to the joy of singing.
The Catawba Brass will accompany the choir and Dr. Barry Sang will join the ensemble on French horn. The concert will also include the Gospel piano stylings of sophomore piano major Savannah Nunn.
Also accompanying the choir will be Jacob Hahn and Susan Trivett, as well as Dr. Burgess on two selections featuring the newly installed organ in Catawba’s Chapel.

A birthday bash celebrating Barbie’s 60th

SPENCER — Celebrate in style for Barbie’s birthday with internationally known Barbie expert, educator and distinguished author, Bradley Justice. Enjoy lunch, an award winning program and a fabulous party. The Barbie Birthday Swag Bag includes a Barbie doll and party favors.

There will be games and activities, cake, a sales tables, door prizes, yhr luncheon, a museum tour, and fun photo props.
After the luncheon, attendees are invited to the Birthday Bash and Grand Opening of a Special Barbie exhibit curated by Bradley Justice. Registration fee is $50.

33rd annual Brady’s Author Symposium

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Robert Olen Butler is the featured author at the 33rd Annual Brady’s Author Symposium. Butler’s writing career includes 17 novels, six story collections and one book of non-fiction. He won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1993 for his story collection, “A Good Scent From a Strange Mountain.”
The Symposium will be held in the Robertson Community Center, Catawba College. The event consists of a combination symposium and Q&A, an optional seated luncheon and a free book signing. Defense of Fort Dobbs Remembered
Feb. 23-24
STATESVILLE — Fort Dobbs State Historic Site offers a glimpse of the harrowing days of the Anglo-Cherokee War of Feb. 27, 1760.
The 259th anniversary program features living history interpreters portraying provincial soldiers and settlers. Musket and swivel cannon firing demonstrations, and on-going demonstrations of 18th century military camp life, including wood working and cooking, will be featured.
There is a special evening firing demonstration at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
