Mocksville residents Joseph Miller and his wife, Becky Miller, were married three weeks after dating on Feb. 14, 1984. When heart issues for Joseph resulted in an extended stay at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, he and Becky were disappointed they would be spending their milestone wedding anniversary in the hospital. After this news, Joseph’s nurses began planning a surprise anniversary dinner for the couple. Joseph was in on the surprise, Becky wasn’t.

Nurses personally purchased Valentine’s Day décor to add festivity to Joseph’s room. The nurses secretly decorated the room and set up a table for two — complete with LED tea light candles and roses — while Joseph and Becky took a walk around the unit floor, so that Becky would be surprised when they returned. A nurse also brought in her own fine china so that the Millers could enjoy dinner without feeling like they were in the hospital.

Joseph and Becky, grandparents of seven, were thrilled and grateful to the nurses for their compassion and thoughtfulness.
