SALISBURY — The Rowan IDEA Center Foundation will host a free legal clinic, Ask-a-Business-Lawyer, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce office in the Gateway Building, 204 E. Innes St.

The clinic is for startup businesses and small business owners. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Register at www.rowanideacenter.com.

Attorneys Margaret Kocaj and Rocky Cabagnot will provide advice.

Kocaj is founder of Copperline Legal, a boutique law firm based in Charlotte. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She graduated cum laude from law school while running a tax preparation business, Kocaj Consulting.

Cabagnot, executive director of the Salisbury-Rowan Community Action Agency, has more than 15 years of practice representing nonprofit public charities, affordable housing developers and community organizations. He has handled critical business requirements, such as corporate formation, tax status, corporate governance documents, identify deficiencies and potential opportunities, to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions for enhancing competitiveness and improving client services.

Cabagnot has been a professor at Florida State University, UNC-Charlotte and Charlotte School of Law.

In addition to the clinic, the IDEA Center holds monthly sessions from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at City Tavern. Upcoming sessions include:

• Business Model Canvas, Feb. 12.

• Market assessment, March 12.

• Entrepreneurial marketing, April 9.

• The 4 P’s: Price, Product, Placement and Promotion, May 14.

• Entrepreneurial finance, June 11.

The goal of the IDEA Center Foundation is to create a structured process to build and recruit entrepreneurs, startups and existing business owners for Rowan County’s long-term economic growth and development.

To further that effort, the foundation is helping create and grow young businesses through partnerships among government, academia and private sector leaders in Rowan County.
