Friday’s games …

NORTH ROWAN

ALBEMARLE  — North Rowan’s boys were clicking and rolled to a 66-41 Yadkin Valley Conference win against Albemarle.

“One of our stronger games,” North coach Jason Causby said. “Really proud of our effort. This was an important road win in a packed gym. Albemarle is a good team and plays well at home. I was concerned going in.”

North (13-2, 8-0) got 24 points from Brevin Goodlett, who dominated the paint. The Cavaliers got 16 from Dayjuwon Cooke and nine from Quintous Smith Jr. Derrick Page scored six points and had a solid game running things for the Cavaliers.

YVC leader North is taller and started fast, leading 16-6 after a quarter. North never lost control.

Albemarle did make a push late in the second quarter, putting together an 11-3 run to get within 33-24 at halftime.

“They had a run at the end of the half, but we responded well in the third quarter,” Causby said.

Albemarle (8-8, 6-2) had pushed North in an early-season meeting of the teams, losing 64-60 in Spencer.

Both of North’s losses came in the Sam Moir Christmas Classic.

CARSON
STATESVILLE — Statesville’s boys were hot, and Carson was not.
The Cougars (7-9, 2-1)  had won four in a row, but they ran headlong into a buzz saw in a North Piedmont Conference road game.
Statesville won 78-35. It was Carson’s lowest offensive production since a 53-29 loss to Northwest Cabarrus in the 2014-15 season.
Carson didn’t score more than 10 in any quarter and shot 2-for-13 at the foul line.
“Obviously, I’m disappointed with how we played,” Carson coach Brian Perry said. “We’ve got a lot of inexperienced guys, that’s a tough place to play, and we got off to a terrible start. Then a few calls went against us, and things snowballed. Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.”
Javon Smith and Cole Perry, who do most of the ball-handling for Carson, had three fouls each in the first quarter. Statesville stepped up the defensive pressure, and Carson was down 27-7 after eight minutes.
By halftime, it was 52-16, and it was over.
“Nothing positive happened for us,” Coach Perry said. “Some of our weaknesses were glaring tonight, but we’ll regroup. We’ll  fix the things that went wrong.”
AJ Mauldin led the Cougars with 13 points.
EJ Clark, who’s been having a fine season and is averaging 16 points per game, didn’t score.
Cole Perry, who had score 20-plus three straight games, was held to seven.
Jeremiah Mott led the Greyhounds (7-8, 3-0) with 17 points.
CARSON (35) — Mauldin 13, Perry 7, Washington 4, Spry 4, Jackson 4, Smith 3, Clark, Zuniga, Allen, Harris.
