College basketball: Livingstone men get road victory at Morris

SUMTER, S.C. — Livingstone’s men’s basketball team breezed to a 90-67 victory at Morris on Thursday.

The Blue Bears (9-6) got 13 points from Jalen Fykes. Mallik Smith had 12 points and nine rebounds. Martel Handley scored 10.

Livingstone played 17 men in its final non-conference outing of the season. Fourteen different Blue Bears scored against the NAIA opponent.

Livingstone led 20-19 with eight minutes left in the first half, but took control with a 13-1 run. The Blue Bears led at the break, 39-29.

Livingstone shot very well — 56.7 percent for the game and 62.2 percent in the second half.

The Blue Bears also had a big advantage on the glass, out-boarding the Hornets by a 43-20 margin.

Livingstone had a 26-4 edge on fast-break points and got 52 points from its bench.

Frederick Brown, a 6-foot-6 center, led Morris with 20 points.

Livingstone has won three of its last four.

Livingstone is home against Claflin, a new CIAA member, at New Trent Gym on Saturday. It’s Overton Elementary School Day.

The men’s game will start at about 4 p.m., following the 2 p.m. women’s game.
