Livingstone women fall to Virginia State

SALISBURY — Eight straight losses turned nine for the Livingstone women’s basketball team on Saturday.

Despite 30 points from junior guard Daisa Harris, the Blue Bears suffered an 85-72 CIAA loss to visiting Virginia State. LC’s record fell to 3-12 overall and 0-5 in conference play.

Harris shot 11-for-19 from the field and enjoyed her third 30-point effort of the season. She added five assists and sparked a defense that forced 25 turnovers with eight steals. Teammate Darra Walker contributed 19 points, four assists and five steals and hit five 3-pointers. The Blue Bears shot 39 percent from the field (23-for-59), but were outrebounded by a 43-26 margin.

Virginia State (7-5, 2-2) shot 54.3 percent from the floor (25-for-46) and placed four scorers in double figures. Senior Chrisanna Green — a Seton Hall transfer — shot 9-for-10 from the field and finished with 30 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. The Trojans snapped a three-game losing streak.

Livingstone returns to action Monday at New Trent Gym, where Chowan pays a 5:30 p.m. visit.
