KANNAPOLIS — Are you familiar with or have you ever heard of Urban Archery? Urban archery is a deer management strategy that not only helps control the number of deer within a municipality but also contributes to the overall health of the deer herd in an area.

Municipalities throughout North Carolina have worked with the North Carolina Wildlife Commission to develop local ordinances that work in conjunction with current North Carolina hunting regulations.

Urban Archery Season is set to begin Jan. 12,  and runs through Feb. 17.

The city does not maintain or provide maps that identify areas that would meet the acreage requirements of the ordinance. It is the responsibility of the individual hunter to not only identify these areas but to also have written consent of the property owner before entering the property and participating in the urban archery season.

The link to access the ordinance detailing the Urban Archery requirements can be found in the Frequently Asked Questions section of the Police Department’s page under the Government & Departments tab.
