SALISBURY — The 28th Regiment North Carolina Infantry Reactivated will hold its annual regimental meeting from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Rowan Museum, 202 N. Main St.

At 1 p.m., in conjunction with the museum, the 28th Regiment will sponsor for the public a Civil War seminar titled “Beyond the Battlefield.”

Well-known author and 2010 North Carolina Historian of the Year Michael Hardy will be the keynote speaker.

Hardy will include a presentation focusing on the feeding of the Army of Northern Virginia. He recently released “General Lee’s Immortals: The Battles and Campaigns of the Branch-Lane Brigade in the Army of Northern Virginia, 1861-1865.”

“Few in American literature today tell the story of the Confederate soldier and his world better than Mr. Hardy,” the regiment said in a news release.

Following Hardy, two additional presentations are planned on significant aspects of the Confederacy involving Salisbury and the men of Rowan County.

At 2:40 p.m., Lt. Greg Cheek of the 28th NCT will present “Remembering the Salisbury Confederate Prison.” At 3:15 p.m., Sgt. Stephen C. Harris, also of the 28th NCT, will present “Fighting With Reilly’s Battery From Rowan County.”

The seminar is free. Participants are encouraged to make a donation to the Rowan Museum while there.
