SALISBURY — The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office has removed one man from its most-wanted list and added another.

Derrick Wayne Zito, 42, was arrested on Dec. 28 after a brief struggle. He was placed on the list earlier in the month.

Deputies went to a China Grove residence where they located Zito.

He was found in possession of methamphetamine. He was taken to the hospital for treatment after his arrest.

Zito was issued a $100,000 secured bond and placed in the Rowan County Detention Center.

Zito now faces charges of felony failure to notify authorities of an address change as a registered sex offender; felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance; felony malicious conduct by a prisoner; felony destruction of evidence; misdemeanor resisting an officer; and three counts of assault on a government official.

Sheriff’s officials are looking for 48-year-old Kenneth Wayne Shepherd, also known as Kenneth Sheperd. He has been added to the most-wanted list.

At 1:30 a.m. Dec. 6, deputies responded to a reported robbery of the Rushco convenience store at Long Ferry Road and Interstate 85. A black man entered the store with a gun and demanded money from the clerk.

After the clerk gave him money, the man left. Detectives identified Shepherd as the suspect. They obtained arrest warrants on a charge of felony robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Shepherd is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 225 pounds.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Shepherd is asked to contact Lt. Chad Moose at 704-216-8687, Detective Travis Allen at 704-216-8715 or CrimeStoppers at 866-639-5245.
