SALISBURY — A Rockwell man stole a 55-inch television from Walmart and returned to the store hours later to try to steal another one, according to the Salisbury Police Department.

When he was arrested, off-duty police officers found cocaine in his pocket, police said.

Police charged Brandon Mikel Jordan, 28, of the 1000 block of Family Circle, on Monday with misdemeanor larceny, felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police investigators said that about 11:40 a.m. Monday, Jordan put a TV set in a grocery cart and walked past store employees and into the parking lot. He got into a vehicle and left, then returned to the store at 2:45 p.m.

He removed the security wrap from a Keurig coffee machine, walked around the store with it and then put it back on a shelf. Jordan then picked up another TV, placed it in a cart and walked toward the exit near the hair salon.

He had removed the security wrap from the TV but left it near the salon. Police officers stopped Jordan and searched him, finding a syringe and plastic wrap with a white powder inside, authorities said.

The substance was determined to be cocaine.

Jordan is on probation after an August conviction for misdemeanor larceny. He was released from the Rowan County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond on the new charges.
