High school basketball: East edges South Stanly

GRANITE QUARRY — East Rowan’s boys basketball team won at home on Wednesday, edging South Stanly in non-conference action, 60-57.

It was tight throughout.

Senior guard Gabe Hinceman’s career-high 20 points lifted the Mustangs (5-3). Elton Hooper scored 12, Brandon Jefferson had nine, and Christian Bennett added six.

Justin Gaddy led South Stanly (4-4) with 15 points. Jacquez Cooke scored 13, while Addison Tarlton had 12.

East bounced back from a 46-37 loss to Mount Pleasant on Monday. Hooper scored 13 in that one, while Hinceman had eight.

East plays at A.L. Brown (6-0)  tonight in its final outing before Christmas.
