SALISBURY — Senior Bryanna Troutman had 18 points, 16 rebounds, five blocks and four steals to lead Salisbury’s girls basketball team to a 54-40 Central Carolina Conference win against Ledford on Tuesday in the SHS gym.

“Ledford has a great player in (Catawba-bound) Lyrik Thorne,” SHS coach  Lakai Brice. “We knew we had to try to contain her. She scored 24, but we  did a pretty good job. We fouled a little too much.”

Anayia Fulson scored nine for the Hornets (6-0, 5-0). Rachel McCullough had eight points and four steals. Jaleiah Gibson had seven points and six rebounds. Janesha Marshore had six points, while Chantal Robinson contributed five rebounds.

“We did a good job with our pressure and forced some turnovers,” Brice said. “We’re starting to click. We’ll get better at turning those turnovers into points. We can be a dangerous team.”

Salisbury led 23-20 at the break and had a big third quarter to get some separation.

Salisbury plays at Central Davidson on Thursday.

West girls

MOUNT ULLA — West Rowan stayed undefeated on Tuesday, romping 71-26 against A.L. Brown in the West gym.

West had won an earlier meeting in Kannapolis, 62-32.

Junior Abigail Wilson again led the Falcons (8-0). She had 21 of her 27 points before halftime. She’s scored 20 or more points seven times this season.

Wilson has 1,159 career points and continues to move up the Falcons’ all-time scoring list. She has a chance to be the first 2,000-point scorer in program history. Ayana Avery, who went on to star at Radford,  set the school record with 1,995 points in 2011.

Senior Mary Sobataka scored 16, her sixth double-digit outing of the season. She’s scored 862 in her career.

Gabby Blabon continued her strong play in recent weeks with 11 points. Kia Pharr added six.

Jaliah Smoutherson scored seven to lead the Wonders (0-6).

A.L. Brown coach Doug Wilson was honored recently with the  Order of the Long Leaf Pine.

West has one more game before Christmas. The Falcons will be at North Rowan for a 6 p.m. tip on Thursday.

Carson girls

CHINA GROVE — Carson’s girls had a close one on Tuesday.

They appreciated it. They needed it.

The Cougars won their 10th straight, beating Central Cabarrus, 57-48.

Carson trailed at times and was down for a while in the third quarter.

“We absolutely needed a game like this,” Carson coach Brooke Stouder said. “We haven’t faced much adversity since the first time we played Central. This wasn’t easy, but we grew from the experience, made big free throws and  got the win.”

The key for the Cougars was 21-for-27 free-throw shooting. They made 7-for-8 from the line in the final minutes.

McKenzie Gadson shot 9-for-12 from the foul line and scored 15. Colbie Perry (11), Ellie Wilhelm (10), Carleigh Perry (9) and Lani Isley (9) also scored steadily for the Cougars.

Jael Miller scored 24 for the Vikings (3-4). Aniyah Tate had 14.

“Miller is a great player,” Stouder said. “The plan was to stay in front of her, but she made five 3-pointers and she did a good job of creating and setting up Tate.”

South girls

THOMASVILLE — South Rowan’s girls got another Central Carolina Conference victory on Tuesday, pulling away with fourth-quarter free throws and beating Thomasville, 46-37.

The Raiders (4-3, 4-1) got another big effort from senior Janiya Downs, who is signing with Catawba College on Thursday. Downs scored 28, with 17 in the second half. She also had nine rebounds and four steals. Downs is averaging 26.4 points per game.

Last-place Thomasville (0-5, 0-5) was on top after the first quarter. South held a slim 20-17 lead at halftime. Bethany Rymer had seven points and five steals. Madison McGuire scored six points. Lauren Shell had six rebounds.

Shakira Little led the Bulldogs with nine points.

THOMASVILLE — South Rowan’s boys lost at Thomasville, 77-49, on Tuesday in a Central Carolina Conference game.

South trailed 38-24 at the break.

Braden Graham scored 13 to lead South (1-5, 1-3). Andrew Jones scored 11, and Jayden Dextraze added seven.

Leading Thomasville (3-1, 3-1) were Tyree Barnes and Jordan Williams with 14 points each.

Jayvee girls

West Rowan’s jayvee girls won against A.L. Brown on Tuesday, 39-30.

Megyn Spicer scored 20 for the Falcons, while Amoni Bryant had 12.

Lauren Waller scored 14 to lead the Wonders.

Carson won against Central Cabarrus, 38-12.

Makayla Johnson scored 13, Iyonna Parker scored eight. Allie Burns and Camden Corley were defensive standouts for the Cougars (6-0).

Mid. school girls

Knox’s girls won against Corriher-Lipe, 47-20.

Kyla Bryant led the Trojans with 25 points. Mary Morgan scored nine, and Jamecia Huntley had six.

Mid. school boys

JyMikaah Wells scored 20 points to lead the Knox boys to a win against Corriher-Lipe.

Jayden “Juke” Harris scored 15 points, and Jalen Chunn added 14 .

Tyreze Miller and CJ Toomer had nine each.

Local golf

Thirty-three GARS members played at Warrior.  Low ‘A’ Flight player was Franklin Ford with a net of 63.51.

Low ‘B’ Flight player was Bill Reid with a net of 67.05.

Low ‘C’ Flight player was Tommy Ellis with a net of 61.47. Low ‘D’ Flight player was Tommy Seamon with a net of 68.86.

Low gross was a 73 shot by Bernard Caldwell and low net was won by  Ellis.
