Brown Bag Readers book club give to Christmas Happiness in memory of late friend

SALISBURY — Nancy Penley was a friend to many, but she succumbed to the effects related to cancer about three years ago, but her impact lives on through her friends with the Brown Bag Readers book club. The members of the club donated to the Christmas Happiness in memory of their friend.
“Nancy was a very special friend. She has three wonderful children, was always positive, upbeat and always had a smile on her face. She left quite a mark on our lives. Her children have families and she adored her grandchildren,” said friend Rochelle Bost.
The book club began years ago meeting in people’s home and then transitioned to meeting mostly at the Salisbury Country Club. The group is made up of 13 people who meet once a month, and someone hosts the meetings that usually have a theme.
Bost is a retired first-grade teacher and many of the other members are former educators.
“We know the needs of single parents who can’t afford to buy for their children. We want to make sure they have Santa. It takes a lot of the pressure off the parents,” Bost said.
Contributions to the Christmas Happiness Fund may be delivered to the Salisbury Post, 131 W. Innes St., between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays or mailed to Salisbury Post Christmas Happiness Fund, P.O. Box 4639, Salisbury, NC 28145-4639. Please make checks payable to Christmas Happiness and indicate how you want your donation listed.
