Friday’s roundup …

Salisbury

SALISBURY — Salisbury’s boys had no trouble with visiting Oak Grove on Friday, rolling to a 75-24 Central Carolina Conference victory.

The Hornets (3-2, 3-1)  led 55-15 at halftime. The second half was played with a running clock.

“We haven’t been shooting well —  we’ve had some very low percentages on 2-point field goals,” Salisbury coach Bryan Withers said. “But we got back to basics tonight, with the focus on defending and sharing the ball. We’ve got after it pretty good, forced turnovers, looked more like ourselves. The effort was back.  There was a lot of improvement.”

Cameron Gill scored a career-high 14 points. Raheim Walker scored 10. Thirteen Hornets scored.

“We’ve only got three guys right now who were in the mix last year,” Withers said. “But we’re learning each other, and we’ll keep getting better every week. We’re starting to practice better and with more intensity.”

Oak Grove fell to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in the CCC. Anthony Bowen led the Grizzlies with 13 points.

Salisbury is home against Ledford on Tuesday.

North Rowan

ASHEBORO — North Rowan’s boys got 20 points each from seniors Dayjuwon Cooke and Brevin Goodlett and romped at Uwharrie Charter Academy, 76-36, on Friday.

It was the first game in UCA’s new gym.

It was the second Yadkin Valley Conference road trip in two nights for the Cavaliers (5-0, 3-0), but they had no issues. It was their first blowout win of the season.

“We’ve been starting slow, so we issued a challenge to the guys to come out faster,” North coach Jason Causby said. “We started the game with an 8-0 run and they were getting a timeout after less than two minutes. Collectively, it’s the best intensity we’ve had at the start of a game.”

North led after a quarter, 19-2.

Causby believes the Cavaliers already have beaten two of the best YVC teams in Albemarle and South Stanly.

“We’ve actually played a tough schedule to start the season,” Causby said. “Northwest Cabarrus was very good, and it’s never easy to play at West Rowan.”

North has a lot of room to grow. Several football players joined the team late, and the Cavaliers, like everyone else, haven’t had much time in the gym with the snow days.

“I’m not saying we were dealt a hand that’s any worse from anyone else,” Causby said. “But we haven’t had much time to mesh yet, and it’s just starting to come together.”

North will make up its home game with West Rowan on Thursday.

Uwharrie Charter is 1-6 and 0-1 in the YVC.

NORTH (76) — Goodlett 20, Cooke 20, Davis 9, Goodes 6, Smith 6, Robinson 4, Page 4, White 3, Wilson 2, Broaddus 2, Stoner.

UCA (36) — McCollum 13,  Dunn 10, Christian 6, Brady 5,  Williams 2.
