SALISBURY — Rowan authorities charged a local mother with child abuse after she woke up after a night of drinking and reported that her child was abducted. Officials said the child was with the mother’s roommate.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Cheyanne Hope Robinson, 20, of the 1300 block of Henderson Grove Church Road, with child abuse and consumption of alcohol by person 19 or 20, both of which are misdemeanors.

She called 911 to say someone had abducted her child. She admitted to passing out after drinking the night before, woke up around 7 a.m. and the child was gone. Robinson said she didn’t call right away because she thought her roommate took him.

She and authorities tried to contact her roommate but were unable to reach her. They did reach another roommate who said they took the child because they were afraid to leave him with Robinson. The roommates were in Cabarrus County. Cabarrus authorities confirmed the child was safe where he was, according to a report.

Authorities contacted Rowan DSS. The deputy noted that Robinson still smelled of alcohol.

Robinson was issued a $500 secured bond. She has since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center. She is expected in court Feb. 14.
