Weather update: Wintry mix expected to start late Saturday

SALISBURY — Get out your snow boots and double-check church and school schedules. A winter storm is expected to bring snow and sleet to Rowan County and the surrounding region this weekend, starting Saturday night and going through Monday.

Here’s the latest for Salisbury from the National Weather Service:

Today
Partly sunny, with a high near 48. Light north wind.
Tonight
Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. Calm wind.
Saturday
A slight chance of snow between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., then a chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 40. Calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Saturday Night
A chance of rain before midnight, then snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 30. Northeast wind 6 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
Sunday
Snow and sleet, becoming all sleet after 4 p.m. High near 32. Northeast wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent.
Sunday Night
Sleet likely before 7 p.m., then snow and sleet likely between 7 p.m. and 3 a.m., then sleet likely after 3 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 30. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.
Monday
A chance of sleet before 10 a.m., then a chance of rain between 10am and 4 p.m., then a chance of sleet after 4 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 38. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.
