Letter: Veteran appreciates generous gesture

I thought Thanksgiving Day was over until Saturday, Nov. 25, when I stopped at the place we always get our gasoline, Pine Ridge Grocery on Stokes Ferry Road. While I filled up my car, my wife went inside to pay. She waited in line, and when she finally got to the cashier, she learned the man in front of her had already paid for that veteran’s purchase. I was wearing my Air Force cap and Air Force jacket; that’s all I know was his reason for paying.
I have had my coffee paid for and my breakfast, and sometimes dinner. And, of course, the coffee and doughnuts at Thelma’s coffee shop are paid for by Lyerly Funeral Home.
Thanks is not enough. But I would love to know who this person was at the Pine Ridge Grocery that paid for my gasoline. I would love to thank him personally. I sincerely hope he reads the Salisbury Post.
