Staff report

Detectives with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office are trying to put together what happened to a 19-year-old Salisbury man who died of a gunshot wound Thanksgiving Day.

Tyjuan Jaquar Gibson has been identified as the man who was shot. He died at the hospital after having been transported to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center by private vehicle.

Authorities determined Gibson died from a single gunshot wound, related to a incident occurring at 3285 Lincoln Ave., Spencer, which is off Hollywood Drive.

About 12 p.m. Thursday, sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported hit-and-run call at 3285 Lincoln Ave., Spencer.

Meanwhile, personnel at Novant Health Rowan had called Salisbury Police to the emergency room, where a gunshot victim — Gibson — had just arrived.

The two law enforcement agencies realized the calls were related, and detectives from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division were called in. Salisbury Police detectives who responded to the hospital also assisted.

“As a result of this part of the investigation, the detectives determined the incident occurred at 3285 Lincoln Ave.,” a release from the Sheriff’s Office states.

“The investigation continues as detectives continue to follow leads and seek individuals that witnessed the event.”
