SALISBURY — City council will meet Nov. 20 to discuss several demolition requests and the first stage of rezoning to community institutions.

Community Planning Services will ask council’s approval for demolition permit 403 North Main Street. Last month, Historic Preservation Commission gave the OK, saying it had been vacant for 19 years and was in a poor state of repair. The property was a 1953 service garage and will be redeveloped into a Sharonview Federal Credit Union branch.

They will also decide to demolish six properties, which includes 208 Myron Place, 306 Institute Street, 424 Partee Street, 504 East Liberty Street, 711 East Liberty Street and 1408 South Fulton Street.

The first portion of the rezoning project from “institutional use” to “community institution” district along major roadways. This includes 25 properties.

Council will consider a request by Paul Lee Hudson and Bobbie Jo Watson for a pool hall permit for Shark Tank at 612 South Main Street.

The council will adopt its meeting schedule considering changing the first meeting of the year to Jan. 2 and moving up the starting time of the Aug. 6 meeting to be 3 p.m. to allow members to participate in National Night Out.

Police Chief Jerry Stokes will give an update.

Public Services will request a stormwater grant funding for 421 Statesville Boulevard of a minimum $19,350. There is a remaining budgeted amount for $25,000. They will also request to allow the city manager to execute a task order for an agreement with HDR Engineering, Inc.

The council will also consider a resolution to establish a Fair Housing Steering Committee, which will develop the Action Plan, annual goals and five year goals. The committee will have 16 members.

Tuesday’s meeting is at 5 p.m. at Council Chambers, 217 S. Main Street.
