The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office’s Shop With a Cop program is now accepting applications.
The program is designed to provide low-income or at-risk children ages 11 to 14 who live in Rowan County with the opportunity to shop for Christmas gifts for their family and themselves.
Participants are accompanied by Rowan County deputies or other local law enforcement officers. Each child is given a $200 Walmart gift card and partnered with an officer.
The program will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 15. It will begin at First Baptist Church, 223 N. Fulton St., with a meet-and-greet at which parents and guardians will meet the partnering law enforcement officer. The children and parents are treated to a light breakfast.
After shopping, the children will return to the church to eat lunch, wrap the gifts, play games and take part in crafts.
