Former Rowan-Salisbury Schools teacher charged with rape, sex offenses

CHINA GROVE — A former teacher with Rowan-Salisbury Schools has been charged with having a sexual relationship with a student.

The China Grove Police Department said it received a tip about the relationship on Nov. 6.

Police charged Brittany Leigh Howard on Tuesday with two counts of statutory rape of a person 15 years or younger; two counts of statutory sex offense with a person 15 or younger; and two counts of sexual activity with a student.

Howard was a China Grove Elementary School teacher before she resigned in June. Authorities said the incidents occurred in 2017 with a former student. The incidents did not occur at the school.

Howard was issued a $60,000 secured bond.
