All precincts are in with little change for 13th Congressional District

SALISBURY — Results are in for the remaining four of 220 precincts in the 13th Congressional District, and little has changed in the election-night tally.

In the 216 precincts reporting Tuesday night, Republican incumbent Ted Budd received 145,127 votes, or 51.8 percent of the vote. His Democratic challenger, Kathy Manning, received 126,925, or 45.3 percent.

Third-party challengers Tom Bailey and Robert Corriher shared the remaining 2.9 percent, with Bailey getting 5,367 votes and Corriher, 2,747.

The four late-reporting precincts contributed 2,791 votes, with the majority — some 65.9 percent — going to Manning.

But the additional 1,839 votes did not close the 6.5 percent gap between Manning and Budd, though it brought the two closer by a half percent.

Budd carried all but one of the 13th District’s five counties. District 13 encompasses all of Davie and Davidson counties and parts of Rowan, Iredell and Guilford.

His biggest win was in Davie, where he received 72.15 percent of the vote. Manning received 25.08 percent; Bailey; 1.96; and Corriher 0.81.

Results were similar in Davidson County, where Budd received 71.1 percent to Manning’s 25.96, Bailey’s 2.16 and Corriher’s 0.78.

In Iredell, Budd took 62.43 percent of the vote, while Manning got 34.52. These numbers were nearly reversed in Guilford, the only county Manning won. She got 61.53 percent of the vote there, while Budd had 35.6 percent.

The closest race was in Rowan County, where Budd claimed victory by a mere 1.69 percent. Unofficial numbers show him with 8,796 votes to Manning’s 8,495, or 49.47 to 47.78 percent.
