SALISBURY — A Rowan County sheriff’s deputy with a dog found an 85-year-old man in a field Tuesday night after he left his Salisbury home.

Family members said the man has shown signs of Alzheimer’s disease.

Authorities said the man’s wife told them that she asked her husband, if he wanted to go for a walk, and he declined. His wife said he seemed agitated, officials said.

The man walked out of the couple’s home in the 1000 block of U.S. 70 and went into a shed in the front yard. He walked toward the road, so his wife got into her vehicle and caught up with her husband.

He got into the vehicle but became angry and demanded that she let him out. He got out of the car near Statesville Boulevard and Hildebrand Road.

Authorities said the man went missing about 4 p.m. and was located about 9 p.m. by Deputy Kevin Holshouser and K-9 Echo in a field near Hildebrand Road.

Rowan EMS checked the man for any injuries but he had none. He was returned home.
