Area Sports Briefs: Carson wins NPC tennis tournament

Carson won Tuesday’s North Piedmont Conference tennis tournament in Olin with 12 points.
West Rowan was second with 10 points. South Iredell (8), North Iredell (4), East Rowan (3) and Statesville (0) were the other participants.
West’s Payton Holt won three matches and took the singles championship.
Also advancing to the 3A Midwest Regional in Concord were runner-up Lindsey Conrad (Carson) and third-place finisher Faith Hettinger (S. Iredell).
Hettinger beat Kristen Brady (East Rowan) in the match for third.
In doubles, Carson’s team of Maci Cooper/Jadyn Kirkpatrick won the tourney championship.
Second place went to South Iredell’s Kailtyn Crabb/Emily Mattei. North Iredell’s Macie York/Jana Whicker placed third. The top three doubles teams qualified for the regional.
Carson’s team of Carleigh Perry/Colbie Perry finished fourth.

South Rowan (8-10) wrapped up the season with a 7-2 Central Carolina Conference win against Lexington.
Singles winners for the Raiders were Lauren Shell, Kristen Minehart, Jennifer Mysayakhom and Brianna Weatherwax.
Doubles winners were K. Minehart/Shell, Jamie Minehart/Emma Leazer, and Weatherwax/Mysayakhom.
High school volleyball
South Rowan stayed tied for first with Ledford and West Davidson by sweeping Central Davidson on Tuesday’s Senior Night — 25-12, 25-18 and 25-19.
South (18-4, 15-2) honored seniors Anna Blume, Caroline Brooks and Janiya Downs.
Payton Black had 16 digs. Brooks had four aces. Kira Rymer had four aces, 27 kills and 12 assists. Downs had 12 kills and six digs. Anna Rymer had 13 assists.
• South Rowan (14-8, 11-7) lost the jayvee match 25-19, 19-25 and 15-12.
Makali Strong had five kills. Emma Owens had four assists. Kali Nelson had nine digs.

North Iredell won on Senior Night against South Iredell on Tuesday in Olin. The Raiders swept the Vikings — 25-16, 25-20 and 25-22.

Salisbury lost to North Davidson — 25-22, 25-16, 20-25 and 25-12 on Tuesday. Ella Murphy had 14 kills for the Black Knights.

Statesville swept East Rowan — 25-20, 25-18 and 25-15 in NPC action on Tuesday.
College golf
Playing close to home, UNC Pembroke senior Alexandria Bare (South Rowan) shot 2-under 70, a career best, on Tuesday at the Country Club of Salisbury.
Bare shot 71 on Monday and finished second overall.
Bare helped UNCP finish third in the team standings of the Patsy Rendleman Invitational hosted by Catawba.

Cape Fear Community College’s Parker Chavis (South Rowan) shot 70-77-72 — 219 to tie for sixth in the national junior college preview tournament in Florida.
College volleyball
Coker beat Catawba 3-1 in a SAC match on Tuesday.
Catawba got 12 kills from Kylie Morgan and 11 from Allie Grubb. Morgan Hester (Carson) had 45 assists with 17 digs, while Kimberly Hurtado recorded three blocks.
