MOORESVILLE — A NASCAR truck series racer bought a truck in an unauthorized sale and has refused to surrender the vehicle, according to Rowan County authorities.

He’s being sought on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle.

Jordan Anderson, 27, was told the vehicle should not have been sold and was supposed to turn himself in a week ago, officials said Thursday.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office began its investigation Sept. 7 after the race truck was stolen from 804 Performance Road, Mooresville.

The truck was at the shop of Robert Newling, who is listed as the owner and CEO of Newfab Racecars. The truck was at the shop for repairs of damage from a wreck at a race in Texas.

According to investigators, Newling “took it upon himself” to sell the race truck to Anderson. But the truck does not belong to Newling, authorities said

Detectives say Anderson had reason to believe the truck was stolen.

Investigators tried to get the truck back from Anderson, but Anderson refused to surrender it, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Anderson’s attorney, Darrin Jordan of Salisbury, contacted the Sheriff’s Office and said Anderson would turn himself in on Sept. 20.

Newling was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle.
